Rising Teen Entrepreneur in The Bahamas
Dashia Moxey’s journey began with a simple goal: help her family and build a better future. The 19-year-old Bahamian entrepreneur grew up watching her parents face financial difficulties. That experience pushed her to start earning money on her own at a very young age.
Her drive led her to launch her first small business at only 14. Using her lunch money, she created a skincare line. She later added locs hairstyling and candied fruit sales to increase her income. Her focus remained steady as she saved everything she earned for a much bigger dream.
From Lunch Money to a Clothing Boutique
Dashia always wanted to open a clothing store, so she kept working through school. Support from a dean gave her the confidence to keep going. Her hard work paid off when she opened Astra Boutique in February, only months after graduating from Temple Christian High School in June 2024.
However, the early days were not easy. Her boutique gained attention online, yet foot traffic inside the store remained low. Dashia admitted that the slow start made her question her decision. But the challenge strengthened her faith and pushed her to stay committed.
Building a Growing Business at 19
Today, Astra Boutique offers stylish clothing, jewellery, handbags, hair products, skincare and many accessories. Dashia has also expanded her income streams. She runs a “Sip and Paint” rental service that provides event supplies for customers who book her business. These added services help her grow her brand even while she studies.
The young business owner calls her success a “blessing.” One of her proudest moments was taking her mother on a trip paid for by her boutique earnings. For Dashia, this achievement showed her how far she has come from her early struggles.
Balancing Law School, Business and Future Dreams
Dashia is now a student at the University of The Bahamas, studying law while managing her businesses. She plans to enter politics one day to support young entrepreneurs and create more opportunities for youth in national development.
She believes her experiences will help her guide others. Her message to young people is simple: hard work and commitment can open any door. She also encourages them to trust God’s plan. As she said, “God wouldn’t put you in a position that you can’t handle.”
