Tiffany James has been investing her money wisely for over two years now. With her discovery of intel on how to trade, she wanted to spread knowledge to others, thus the genesis of @ModernBlkGirl.
Modern Blk Girl is James’ company that once started as just a room on Clubhouse has grown into an online community with a significant following. As part of Modern Blk Girl, James is reintroducing ‘Teen University,’ a 30-day course designed to teach 14- to 19-year-olds about investing.
“We talk about investing, but we also talk about sisterhood and the importance of community as you navigate the world,” James says. She hopes to have at least 50 girls enrolled each month.
Financial literacy rates in America are low, but they are the lowest among members of Gen Z. which is why this course is essential in youth becoming more informed on ways to utilize and invest their money.
The 27-year-old grew up in a household with hardworking parents who were immigrants from the Caribbean and worked hard to major in computer science at #RutgersUniversity. Even with her studies, she stated that investing money allowed her to dabble in other professions such as hospitality and event planning.
“Investing can help someone go to college and figure out what they really want to do, what gets them excited and piques their interest,” says James.
