Dorothy P. Smith, a church ministry leader and evangelist, died on October 4, 2026, at 103. She was placed in foster care at five, and at 99 she met her biological family for the first time.

Smith was born on December 20, 1922, and was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Campbell after she was placed in foster care. She accepted Christ early, and at tent revivals led by A.A. Allen she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. At Deliverance Evangelistic Church, under Pastor Benjamin Smith Sr., she served on the usher board, sang in the early morning choir, helped with water baptisms and worked at the altar.

In 1995 she transferred her membership to True Light Fellowship Church under Dr. Wesley Pinnock and became director of the Women’s Usher Board. With her sister-in-law, Sister Suler, she went to Skid Row to minister to homeless people and others in need. “They would go to the mission and share the gospel of Jesus Christ,” her family said.

She was married to Arthur “Pop” Smith for 42 years, until his death. On October 21, 2022, she met her biological family.

“Mother Smith was a kind and loving person who was always concerned about others,” her family said. Services were held on October 20 at True Light Fellowship Church.
