At just 22, Nigerian creative Rachel Ojuromi has turned a year of recreating luxury fashion looks with thrifted clothes in Lagos into a major breakthrough.
Rachel Ojuromi spent the better part of a year recreating runway collections in thrifted clothes in Lagos, and at the end of September she signed with four agencies.
Among the collections she rebuilt and posted was Chanel’s Metiers d’art 2026, assembled out of secondhand clothes in Lagos. She has since made her runway debut for Chanel at Paris Fashion Week.
Ojuromi did not arrive as a would be model. She has said she thought modeling was a surface level job, and went and studied film instead. What changed her mind was the work itself. A model, she said, is “representing and presenting the thoughts and ideas of an entire team.”
Her own announcement, posted at the end of September, reads like somebody who had been keeping count. “WE DID IT!!! NOW SIGNED WITH THE BEST OF THE BEST!” she wrote. She named No Smoking in New York, Safe Management in Paris and SUPA. Worldwide in London, with Next Canada as her mother agency, and said the signing followed six months of what she called thousands of people manifesting one dream.
