Channing Dungey is taking on expanded leadership responsibilities following Skydance’s deal closing, with oversight of major networks including BET, MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central.

No executive has ever been handed this much of what Black households actually watch, and when the Skydance deal closed on October 6, 2026, Channing Dungey was.

Dungey is chairman and chief executive of Warner Bros. Television Group and U.S. Networks. Under the merged Skydance company she is set to take on the day to day operations of Paramount’s cable networks, BET, MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central among them, on top of the Warner Bros. Discovery brands she already runs.

Read the list again, because the list is the story. BET is the network that raised a generation of Black viewers. MTV and Nickelodeon are where most of this country learned what music and childhood were supposed to look like. Set those beside the Warner Bros. Discovery networks and one woman is making the day to day calls across a portfolio most executives never touch in a whole career.

She did not arrive here quietly. Dungey is the first Black executive to lead a major broadcast network’s entertainment division, and before Warner Bros. she served as vice president of original series at Netflix. Broadcast, then streaming, then cable, which is the whole map.

What makes this a Black women’s story rather than a trade story is what the job actually controls. A network head decides which shows get ordered, which get a second season, which writers get a room and which rooms get a budget. Those are the decisions that have historically gone around Black women rather than through them, and they will now cross one Black woman’s desk.

One caution worth keeping. A merger this size can move reporting lines before the dust settles, and the operational handover is tied to a deal that closed on October 6, 2026. What is not in question is who is being handed the portfolio.
