Harmony Edosomwan is using her new national title to shine a light on Black women’s health. The Nigerian-rooted chef was crowned Miss Black USA 2026 on August 9.
The 39th Annual Miss Black USA Pageant took place in Washington, D.C. Edosomwan also won the People’s Choice Award and Heart of Service Award.
Her new role gives her a larger platform for causes close to her heart. She plans to highlight Black maternal health, food justice, wellness, and her Nigerian heritage.
Harmony Edosomwan Wins Miss Black USA 2026 With a Message of Service
Edosomwan represented Vermont during this year’s competition. She has lived in the state for the past 10 years.
She said representing Vermont’s Black community carries special meaning. Black residents make up only about 2% of the state’s population.
“I’m proud to represent us,” Edosomwan said of Vermont’s Black community.
Her pageant success also reflected her commitment to service. The Heart of Service Award recognized that part of her work and public image.
Edosomwan thanked Vermont after winning the national title. She credited the community for believing in her and welcoming her.
“Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for welcoming me; this has been my home for the last 10 years.”
Miss Black USA Harmony Edosomwan Is Fighting Black Maternal Health
One of Edosomwan’s biggest priorities is Black maternal health. She will promote the Miss Black USA organization’s “Not Just Jasmine” initiative.
The campaign focuses on the maternal health crisis affecting Black women across America. The organization cites a major racial gap in pregnancy-related deaths.
According to the information provided by the campaign, Black women are three times more likely to die from childbirth complications.
That makes maternal health a central part of Edosomwan’s platform. She hopes to use her visibility to bring greater attention to the issue.
Nigerian Heritage Takes Center Stage for Harmony Edosomwan
Edosomwan also used the Miss Black USA stage to celebrate her Nigerian heritage. Her evening gown paid tribute to her Edo roots.
She wore a red gown with traditional coral beads during the competition. The look drew inspiration from traditional wedding clothing worn by Edo brides in Nigeria.
The outfit connected her Nigerian identity with her representation of Vermont. It also gave her a chance to bring African culture to a national audience.

Harmony Edosomwan Brings Food and Wellness Into Her Advocacy
Edosomwan’s work extends beyond pageantry and maternal health. She also advocates for wellness, nutritional education, and fair access to food.
She is the owner of Harmony’s Kitchen, a business focused on traditional Black Southern cuisine. The business began while she was studying at the University of Vermont.
Edosomwan launched Harmony’s Kitchen in 2020. She wanted the business to support herself while teaching people about Black food traditions.
“I’m educating people about what soul food is,” she said.
Her food work reflects her wider commitment to Black culture. It also connects naturally with her focus on nutrition and food access.
Chef Harmony Edosomwan Shares a Message of Self-Love
Edosomwan also spoke openly about her journey toward self-love. During the competition, she discussed embracing her complexion and personal identity.
She delivered a spoken word performance as part of the pageant. Her performance added a personal message to her broader advocacy.

Miss Black USA 2026 Winner Receives $100,000 Prize Package
Edosomwan’s victory came with a prize package valued at about $100,000. The package includes several opportunities for her education and career.
She received a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to the University of the District of Columbia. The scholarship can support undergraduate, graduate, or legal studies.
The package also includes a modeling contract. Additionally, she received a $2,500 gap scholarship.
Celebrity stylist Derrick Rutledge was among the pageant judges. He praised Edosomwan’s poise and stage presence during the competition.
Rutledge has styled major figures, including Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama. He also praised Edosomwan’s ability to style herself throughout the pageant.
Harmony’s Kitchen Helped Build Her Path Before the Crown
Edosomwan was already an entrepreneur before becoming Miss Black USA. Harmony’s Kitchen gave her a platform to celebrate Black Southern food.
She created the business during her time at the University of Vermont. The company allowed her to combine entrepreneurship with cultural education.
Her work also reflects her interest in food justice. She promotes greater access to nutritious food while highlighting Black culinary traditions.
Now, her national title gives that work a much larger audience. She can connect food, culture, wellness, and advocacy under one platform.
