Bri Woodson’s Bold Run for Congress

Bri Woodson is stepping into politics with a clear mission. The 31-year-old TikToker, mental health counselor, and addiction survivor wants to become one of the youngest Black women ever elected to Congress. Her goal is to represent Georgia’s 12th district in the 2026 midterm elections.

She has already launched her campaign and is speaking openly about the issues affecting rural communities in eastern and southeastern Georgia. Her strong online presence has helped her reach thousands of people. On TikTok, where she posts under @thecontroversialblonde, she has gained more than 1 million likes by breaking down social issues and calling out harmful policies.

Woodson says her decision to run came from a deep sense of responsibility. She explained, “It was a call to action like I never felt before. I had to do something. We have to try something different.”

A Journey From Addiction to Advocacy

Woodson’s passion for change is rooted in her own lived experience. She calls herself a “Daughter of the Deep South,” a title that reflects her rural Georgia upbringing and the struggles that shaped her life. Her story includes fighting addiction, rebuilding her life, and rising to become a certified substance abuse counselor.

Her work as a counselor has greatly influenced her campaign style. Every day, she teaches adult learners about the brain and addiction. These rooms often include people with vastly different backgrounds, from former gang members to former CEOs. This experience taught her how to communicate across differences and build trust.

As she explains, “I have to figure out how to adjust my language to explain neuroscience… When I realized I can be the person that bridges the gap, it set off a light bulb.”

Using TikTok to Challenge Policy and Raise Awareness

Woodson stands out because she blends real activism with real-world communication skills. Her TikTok videos, especially those about threats to Black history in schools, regularly go viral. She challenges national policies with confidence and clarity.

Her platform has become more than entertainment. It is a tool for political education and community building. She believes deeply in the power of digital outreach. She shared, “My platform helped me understand the power of the internet. I learned how to talk to people and present myself as a leader.”

Although online audiences do not automatically convert into voters, Woodson sees her digital presence as a bridge. It helps her reach people who may never attend a campaign rally or political meeting.

Fighting for Rural Georgia Communities

A major focus of Woodson’s campaign is revitalizing rural counties. She believes these communities have been overlooked for too long. Many deal with poor infrastructure, lack of healthcare access, and limited funding. Woodson says these problems deserve national attention.

She has lived in rural Georgia for most of her adult life, and she understands the challenges from a personal level. She explained, “Our rural counties, especially in the South, are struggling. They all matter.”

Her campaign promises include improving healthcare access, strengthening mental health services, and restoring meaningful bipartisanship. She wants to be a representative who listens first and solves problems with compassion and data.

Grassroots Leadership and Political Experience

Although this is her first run for public office, Woodson is not new to leadership. She has served in key roles within several political organizations. She was the state lead for the Fight Against Fascism Organization and has also worked with the Young Democrats of Georgia.

Her activism spans years, not months. She has advocated for marginalized communities, supported mental health initiatives, and spoken out against policies she believes harm everyday people.

Woodson’s ability to combine formal leadership with grassroots communication makes her a unique candidate for Congress.

Preparing for a Historic Campaign Trail

With the 2026 midterm election approaching, Woodson is already preparing for the primaries. She is meeting voters, speaking at local events, and using digital platforms to share her message. Her campaign strategy is built on connection, transparency, and hope.

She believes her life experiences—addiction recovery, counseling work, political organizing, and digital advocacy—give her the tools to represent Georgia with authenticity and strength. More importantly, she wants her journey to remind others that purpose can come from pain.

As she often says, she is “a fighter” who wants her voice to lift others who feel unheard.
