Shekinah Anderson spent nearly thirty years getting Black hair exactly right, and in September 2023 she opened a funeral home.
Anderson, a celebrity hairstylist in Atlanta who is known as Shekinah Jo and was a cast member of Love and Hip Hop, owns Revival Funeral Home in Manchester, Georgia. She announced the opening on Instagram on September 16, 2023, and posted five days later that the business was open. In October 2026 she marked three years.
She did not mark it quietly. “This makes three years,” she said. “Three years that we’ve been in business, and all the glory goes to God.”
Then she made a claim about the industry she walked into. “I have came in the game. I have changed things. I have made funeral homes step up they game,” she said. “I feel like a trendsetter.”
What she says Revival sells is the thing she sold from a chair for three decades. The funeral home’s own account describes handling the details, the coordination, the presentation and the service, and Anderson describes the business as an all in one funeral service. Presentation is the word that carries across both trades, and it is the word she keeps using.
The money behind that promise is not small. The National Funeral Directors Association reported a 2023 median cost of $8,300 for a funeral with a viewing and a burial, and $6,280 for one with a viewing and a cremation. Those are the figures a family is handed in the week it is least able to argue about anything, and Anderson’s pitch is that somebody paid for thirty years to make people look like themselves is the person to hand them to.
She also credited the people who came after her, thanking those she says she inspired to raise their own standards and saying she was happy to have given them vision.
Anderson was 39 when she opened Revival. She still owns the hair care company that carries her name. Nothing on the record says she holds a funeral service licence or mortuary training, and she has not claimed one. What she has claimed is three years of her own business and a standard she says was not there before her.
