Rosemary Idisi Wins Big With Her Original Horror Film
Nigerian-American actress, writer, and producer Rosemary Idisi has achieved a major milestone after winning Tubi’s first-ever Stubios Greenlight Contest. Her film, Glamping, will premiere on the free streaming platform Friday, October 24, marking a proud moment for Black women creators in horror.
The streaming giant announced the news on October 3, celebrating Idisi as the top winner of its fan-driven contest. The Stubios Greenlight Contest is part of Tubi’s new initiative designed to help emerging filmmakers turn their ideas into fully produced projects with professional mentorship and fan participation.
Idisi’s win stands out not only as a creative victory but also as a cultural one—proving that audiences are hungry for new voices and authentic representation across genres.
Glamping: A Horror Story With a Fresh Cultural Twist
Originally created as a short film, Glamping expands into a thrilling feature that follows a group of friends whose dream weekend getaway in Big Bear turns into a nightmare. The story centers on Olivia, an aspiring influencer, whose luxurious retreat is disrupted by a masked killer.
The film deepens the original short by exploring character backstories and showing diverse survival tactics often missing from traditional horror movies. Through this lens, Idisi not only entertains but also redefines what modern horror can look like when told through a Black, female perspective.
“I’m passionate about bringing diverse characters to life on screen, especially in genres where we haven’t traditionally seen ourselves,” said Idisi. “Stubios gave me the access, mentorship, and community support that young filmmakers like me rarely receive.”
A Platform for New Black Filmmakers and Untold Stories
Tubi launched Stubios earlier in 2024 under its “Tubi for Creators” initiative. The goal is simple yet bold—to give aspiring filmmakers funding, mentorship, and a direct path to showcase their original content to millions of viewers.
By creating a space where fans vote on which projects get greenlit, Stubios bridges the gap between independent creators and mainstream exposure. It also highlights how fan engagement can be a driving force in bringing diverse, underrepresented stories to screens everywhere.
“At Tubi, we champion untold stories—and Rosemary’s genre-defying vision for Glamping is exactly that,” said Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s Chief Content Officer. “We’re thrilled to help bring her storytelling to life on Tubi, where stories truly find their audience.”
Celebrating Representation and Creativity in Horror
Idisi shared her excitement with her fans online, writing, “Just a Nigerian girl with big dreams and stories to tell.” Her heartfelt post captured the spirit of an artist breaking new ground in a genre that rarely gives space to Black creators—especially women.
Her victory is not only a personal achievement but also a win for a new generation of filmmakers eager to blend cultural authenticity with universal storytelling. With Glamping, Rosemary Idisi proves that horror can be both thrilling and deeply meaningful when diverse voices lead the way.
