Tennis legend Serena Williams was among the key figures celebrating a major milestone at Nike as the company officially renamed its headquarters campus in honor of co-founder Phil Knight.

The Beaverton, Oregon campus, formerly known as Nike World Headquarters, is now called the Philip H. Knight Campus. The move recognizes Knight’s role in building Nike into one of the world’s most influential sports and lifestyle brands.

Williams’ presence at the celebration carried special meaning. Her ties to the campus go beyond the recent event and reflect a long-standing partnership with the company.

Nike Renames Headquarters to Honor Phil Knight

Nike executives said the campus renaming celebrates Phil Knight’s lasting impact on the company. Over several decades, Knight helped transform Nike from a small athletic footwear business into a global force in sports, culture, and innovation.

The headquarters sits on roughly 400 acres in Beaverton, Oregon. It includes more than 40 buildings, innovation centers, athletic facilities, and outdoor spaces. The campus was designed to encourage movement, creativity, and collaboration among employees.

Company leaders said the renamed campus reflects Nike’s commitment to honoring its past while continuing to invest in future growth.

Serena Williams Building Remains a Landmark on Nike Campus

Williams has a unique connection to the campus. In 2022, Nike unveiled the Serena Williams Building, a massive one million square foot structure that serves as a major hub for the company’s operations.

The building houses teams focused on design, merchandising, and consumer insights. Nike previously described it as its largest investment in creativity and collaborative product development.

The facility also highlights sustainability. It earned LEED Platinum certification and includes solar panels, recycled materials, and environmental features designed to protect nearby wetlands.

As a result, Williams’ role in the recent celebration underscored her lasting influence within the company and its future direction.

Athlete Centered Innovation Shapes Nike Headquarters

Nike has intentionally designed its headquarters around athletes and performance. Walking trails, open green spaces, and fitness-focused architecture can be found throughout the campus.

The company said the environment was created to resemble a college campus. This approach encourages employees to stay active while developing products and ideas inspired by sport.

Moreover, Nike continues to use athlete partnerships as a central part of its business strategy. High-profile athletes such as Williams remain closely linked to the company’s innovation efforts and brand identity.

Nike CEO Highlights Vision for the Future

Nike President and CEO Elliott Hill said the campus represents much more than a traditional corporate office.

“This campus was never meant to be an office park. Office parks are where people go to get through their day. This place was built to make our teammates want to do something with their days. It was designed to mirror the soul of sport, movement, creativity, possibility and a belief that none of us has reached their full potential yet.”

His comments highlighted Nike’s goal of creating an environment that inspires employees to think creatively and pursue new possibilities.

The company also plans to hold a larger celebration later in 2026 to formally commemorate the Philip H. Knight Campus.

Nike Continues Investing in Growth and Athlete Partnerships

The renaming ceremony comes as competition in the global sportswear industry continues to intensify. Nike is responding by investing in campus development, innovation, and athlete-centered branding.

Williams remains one of the company’s most recognizable ambassadors. Her connection to the campus through the Serena Williams Building demonstrates how Nike continues to honor athletes who have shaped its success.

Together, the campus renaming and Williams’ involvement highlight Nike’s efforts to celebrate its history while building for the future.
