Seneca Connor Introduces Reckond, New App That Scores More Than 800 Brands and Connects Shoppers to Black-Owned Businesses

Black consumers hold enormous spending power, influencing markets and industries across the United States. Now, attorney and entrepreneur Seneca Connor has launched a new platform designed to help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions while supporting Black-owned businesses.

Connor recently introduced Reckond, a first-of-its-kind consumer accountability platform that evaluates major companies based on their commitment to the Black community. The platform launches with scores for more than 800 brands and a directory featuring over 1,300 verified Black-owned businesses.

Available as an iOS mobile app and a browser extension for Chrome and Safari, Reckond aims to help shoppers understand where companies stand on issues that matter to Black consumers.

Reckond Brings Transparency to Consumer Spending

Reckond arrives at a time when many consumers are seeking greater accountability from corporations. Black consumers contribute more than $2.2 trillion in annual spending, yet much of that money flows to companies with limited transparency regarding diversity, equity, and community investment efforts.

At the same time, several major corporations have reduced or rolled back diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. As a result, many consumers have found it difficult to determine whether a company’s public statements match its actions.

Reckond was created to address that challenge. The platform gives users access to data-driven scores that measure how companies support Black communities through hiring practices, supplier diversity, investments, and other key indicators.

How the Reckond Brand Scoring System Works

The platform evaluates companies across seven different categories using publicly available and verifiable information. Each company receives a score ranging from 0 to 100, along with a letter grade from A to F.

The scoring system examines workforce diversity, supplier diversity, political alignment, crisis response, Black spending and investment, legal records, and community investment. Data sources include Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filings, political contribution records, supplier diversity disclosures, and racial justice scorecards.

Reckond also considers whether companies invest real dollars into Black communities. This includes support for Black-owned media, Black entrepreneurs, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and community development initiatives.

Importantly, the scores are not sold to companies. According to the platform, the ratings are generated through an independent methodology developed by Connor and are based on documented evidence.

Black-Owned Business Directory Expands Consumer Choice

One of Reckond’s most notable features is its free directory of verified Black-owned businesses. The directory includes more than 1,300 businesses across industries such as fashion, beauty, food and beverage, technology, home goods, and financial services.

When users search for a brand through the app or browser extension, they can view that company’s Reckond Score. They are also shown Black-owned alternatives within the same product category.

This feature makes it easier for consumers to redirect spending toward businesses that align with their values. Every referral sends shoppers directly to the business owner’s website.

Furthermore, Reckond does not collect commissions from sales or charge listing fees. The platform’s goal is to increase visibility and traffic for Black-owned businesses rather than profit from them.

Seneca Connor’s Mission to Strengthen Black Economic Power

Connor, a Northern California attorney and MBA holder, personally developed the platform’s scoring methodology, legal framework, and evidentiary standards.

She is also the founder and CEO of The Bag Icon LLC, an accessible luxury accessories company. In addition, she created The Spotlight Program, an Instagram initiative that promotes Black-owned brands at no cost.

Reckond represents an extension of Connor’s long-standing commitment to economic empowerment. The platform was built to help ensure that Black consumer spending has a greater impact on Black communities and businesses.

By combining corporate accountability with direct support for Black-owned companies, Connor hopes to create a stronger connection between consumer choices and community outcomes.

Reckond Positions Technology as a Tool for Economic Empowerment

As consumers increasingly seek transparency from brands, Reckond offers a new way to evaluate corporate commitments and spending practices.

The platform’s combination of brand ratings and Black-owned business recommendations provides shoppers with information at the moment they make purchasing decisions.

For Black entrepreneurs, the free directory creates additional opportunities for visibility and customer growth. For consumers, it offers a practical tool for aligning purchases with personal values.

With more than 800 companies already scored and over 1,300 Black-owned businesses listed, Reckond enters the market as an ambitious effort to increase accountability, strengthen Black entrepreneurship, and support long-term economic empowerment.
