Angel Reese hosts back-to-school bash in Chicago
Angel Reese may be sidelined with injury, but her impact continues off the court. The Chicago Sky center gave over 2,000 students brand-new Reebok backpacks filled with school supplies at her back-to-school bash on August 16.
The event, held at Intentional Sports Chicago, brought joy to families on the city’s West Side. Children not only received essentials for the school year but also enjoyed live music, food, and a celebratory atmosphere.
Organized through the Angel C. Reese Foundation and powered by Reebok, the event aimed to help students start the school year with confidence. The foundation’s mission centers on youth empowerment, education, and access to resources.
Giving back to the community
Reese’s gift to Chicago youth goes beyond material support. It represents her commitment to community love and empowerment. Despite being in only her second WNBA season, she has already made her mark as a role model for young people.
A post from her team celebrated the moment, calling her “a true Angel.” Reese herself expressed gratitude to see so many students walk away ready for the new school year.
Her efforts highlight the importance of athletes using their platforms to create change, even during setbacks like injuries. For Chicago families, her presence and generosity showed that leadership extends far beyond the basketball court.
Balancing injury and influence
Although Reese is currently out with a back injury, she continues to inspire. The Sky have struggled this season, but her personal performance remains historic.
In her last game before injury, she posted 22 points and 13 rebounds. That extended her record-breaking streak of double-doubles, making her the first WNBA player with multiple double-double streaks of at least 10 games. Over her last 11 games, she averaged 16.9 points and 13.1 rebounds on 50.9% shooting.
Her coach has announced no timeline for her return. With the Sky already missing the playoffs, the focus is now on her recovery. However, her work off the court continues to shine even brighter during this pause.
Expanding her brand and vision
Reese is not slowing down on personal projects either. She recently announced the release of her first signature sneaker, the Angel Reese 1, set to launch on September 18. The shoe will drop in three colorways: Diamond Dust, Receipts Ready, and Mebounds.
The launch reflects her growing influence as both an athlete and cultural figure. Combining her foundation work, her basketball milestones, and now her sneaker release, Reese is building a legacy that inspires the next generation.
By giving back and staying present in her community, she proves that being a star is about more than wins and stats—it’s about impact.
