A royal welcome for baby Eliana Rose

Princess Edna Tafari Makonnen and her husband, Jamal Akil Robinson, are celebrating the birth of their first child. Their daughter, Princess Eliana Rose Robinson, was born on July 17, 2025, at 2:28 pm. The couple says they are overjoyed as they step into the journey of parenthood.

“My hope for Eliana is rooted in love, growth and authenticity,” Princess Edna told EBONY. “I want her to grow up knowing she is loved not just in words, but in the way she’s seen, heard, and supported every day, starting with Jamal and I.”

    Honoring Ethiopian royal lineage

Princess Edna is the great-granddaughter of Haile Selassie, Ethiopia’s last emperor. Her family traces its roots back to King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. She says this powerful history will play a key role in how she and her husband raise Eliana.

“It is important for her to understand our family history,” she explained. “She comes from a lineage of Kings and Queens.” By passing down this legacy, the couple hopes Eliana will grow with a strong sense of identity and heritage.

    Family bonds across generations

At her baby shower, Princess Edna received a deeply emotional gift from her mother. She was presented with a collection of her own baby clothes, carefully kept through the years.

“Knowing she kept them all those years with so much love makes it even more meaningful,” she shared. “Now, being able to pass them down to my daughter, Eliana, feels like a beautiful connection between generations.”

    Love story turned parenthood

Princess Edna and Robinson first met in 2015 for what was supposed to be a 30-minute coffee date. It lasted an hour, marking the beginning of a lasting bond. They married in 2022 in Potomac, Maryland, surrounded by family, friends, and members of the royal circle.

Now, as new parents, they say their priorities have shifted. “Suddenly, everything I do carries more meaning because it’s for her,” Princess Edna reflected. “In these first few weeks, I’ve slowed down to be present with Eliana and to find every new moment to be amazing.”

A vision for her daughter’s future

Princess Edna already has a clear vision for Eliana’s future. She hopes her daughter grows up safe, confident, and true to herself.

“I want her to be confident in her voice and kind-hearted, someone who leads with empathy, curiosity and courage,” she explained. “I want her to know that success isn’t measured by perfection, but by staying true to herself and the values she holds.”

Motherhood, Edna admits, is also a journey of growth for herself. “I know I’m still figuring out so much as a mother and as a person. But my hope is to grow alongside her, to be someone who listens and learns as much as I teach.”

She added, “More than raising a daughter who ‘has it all together,’ I want to raise a daughter who feels free, loved and enough just as she is.”
