Tracee Ellis Ross Opens Up About Dating Younger Men and Knowing Her Worth
Tracee Ellis Ross is embracing her truth and setting clear standards in her dating life. On the new podcast IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, the award-winning actress shared that she prefers dating younger men. But it’s not just about age—it’s about energy and connection.
“I have long been past the age where I feel like it’s my job to teach somebody or grow them up,” she said. “I’m not interested in that.” Ross made it clear that any partner in her life must bring value. “You have to make my life better. It can’t just be, you know, I’m in a relationship, to be in a relationship.”
A “Unicorn of a Woman” Who Refuses to Settle
Ross, now 53, described herself as a “very unique sort of unicorn of a woman.” She knows what she brings to the table and refuses to settle for less. Instead of waiting around for love, she’s focused on living a full and joyful life.
“In the meantime, I have really learned how to live my life and enjoy it and not sit around waiting,” she told the hosts. The Girlfriends star radiated confidence and self-awareness during the conversation.
Facing Grief But Choosing Herself Anyway
Even with all her confidence, Ross admits that single life isn’t always easy. She spoke honestly about the grief that can come from not having a partner or children. Yet, she doesn’t let those feelings control her.
“As much as grief does surface for me around not having children and not having a partner, I still wouldn’t want the wrong partner,” she shared. Her words remind many women that it’s okay to feel pain but still hold onto their standards.
Living Fully Without a Partner and Building Strong Friendships
Ross has used her single years to build a rich life full of support, friendships, and self-love. She reflected on how her journey has shaped her. “Sometimes I think of all of the things I’ve done, the courage that I’ve had to have, and what I’ve had to learn how to navigate as a single person with no one to hide behind,” she said.
She added, “It’s built a really beautiful experience around me. I have incredible friends.” Ross’s story shows that single life can be full of growth, power, and connection.
Tracee Ellis Ross Is Choosing Her Own Path—And Thriving
The Pattern Beauty founder is living proof that women can thrive on their own terms. She’s not afraid to love herself loudly, speak her truth, and expect the best. “I must be where I’m supposed to be,” she said with calm certainty.
Whether you’re dating, healing, or building your own path, Ross’s message is clear—choose yourself, raise your standards, and never settle for less than joy.
