In response to the devastating wildfires ravaging California, Los Angeles’ professional sports teams have come together to donate over $8 million to support victims and first responders. The donations are aimed at providing both immediate relief and long-term recovery for the communities affected.

LA Sports Teams Join Forces for Wildfire Relief

The 12 major sports teams in Los Angeles, including the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, have pledged over $8 million in donations to support those impacted by the ongoing wildfires. This remarkable display of solidarity aims to offer relief to the victims who have lost homes and belongings in the flames.

The teams have teamed up with Fanatics, a global leader in athletic apparel, to distribute $3 million worth of merchandise to evacuated residents. This donation will help meet the immediate needs of thousands of individuals in affected areas, offering essential items such as clothing and shoes.

Major Events to Assist Evacuated Los Angeles Residents

On January 17, the sports teams will host events at three iconic Los Angeles stadiums: Dodger Stadium, SoFi Stadium, and BMO Stadium. These events will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and aim to provide essential supplies to evacuees.

Residents who have been displaced by the fires will receive much-needed support, including hygiene kits, school supplies, sneakers, and more. To ensure accessibility, the teams will offer bus transportation for evacuees temporarily staying in shelters. Additionally, lunch will be provided at these stadium events, offering comfort during a difficult time.

Collaborating with Charitable Organizations for Greater Impact

Along with the Fanatics merchandise, the teams are partnering with a variety of organizations to ensure the relief reaches those who need it most. The American Red Cross, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, and the California Fire Foundation will be among the beneficiaries of the funds raised.

Other groups involved in the recovery efforts include the Eaton Canyon Fire Relief and Recovery Fund, World Central Kitchen, and Team Rubicon, along with local animal rescue organizations. These partnerships help amplify the relief efforts, ensuring that both people and animals affected by the fires receive the necessary aid.

California Wildfires Cause Devastation

The wildfires have caused immense destruction, with over 24 people reported dead, and property damage expected to range between $135 billion and $150 billion. The crisis has left many communities devastated, and the need for support is ongoing.

The donations from Los Angeles sports teams, including the merchandise and community outreach events, are helping to provide some relief during these challenging times. This collective effort highlights the power of unity and the role of sports teams in making a positive impact on their communities.
