Shark Tank investor Daymond John is set to lead the fifth annual Black Entrepreneurs Day, bringing exciting news for small businesses. This year, John has committed to awarding $100,000 in grants to Black-owned businesses, offering crucial support to help them thrive. The event will take place on November 22 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta.

Grant Applications Open Until November 1

The application process for these grants is currently open and will close on November 1. John emphasizes the importance of a clear vision for potential applicants. He encourages business owners to articulate their goals clearly. “If you can articulate that vision, whom you’re solving a problem for, and why these funds will be put to good use, that’s all you need,” he said in an interview.

This year’s grants aim to provide financial support with “no strings attached.” Unlike many other funding opportunities, these grants do not require recipients to give up any equity. John is focused on empowering Black entrepreneurs, particularly in a time when access to funding can be challenging.

Celebrating Black-Owned Businesses

Black Entrepreneurs Day is not just about grants; it is a celebration of Black-owned businesses. The event will feature several notable figures, including Olympic gold medalist Jordan Chiles, media personality Charlamagne tha God, and rappers Flavor Flav and 2Chainz. Their presence will help shine a light on the achievements of Black entrepreneurs and inspire others to pursue their dreams.

John started Black Entrepreneurs Day in response to the racial justice movement that gained momentum after the death of George Floyd. His aim was to shift the public’s mindset from watching communities struggle to empowering them to build their own businesses.

Empowering Through Education and Inspiration

During the event, John will discuss the challenges that Black entrepreneurs face, such as limited access to education and funding. He acknowledges that many do not come from legacy wealth and often face higher interest rates on loans. “Being an entrepreneur is hard enough as it is,” he remarked.

With the rise of social media and technology, John believes that opportunities for learning and growth are becoming more accessible. “You add that with funding, with inspiration, and I think we have a better shot now than ever before,” he explained.

Support from Corporations and Organizations

John also highlights the importance of support from corporations and organizations that believe in empowering Black entrepreneurs. He recognizes that some companies may have shifted their focus but praises those that continue to support this vital cause. “It’s well-needed, even when the spotlight is down,” he noted.

The upcoming Black Entrepreneurs Day promises to be an impactful event, celebrating the resilience and creativity of Black-owned businesses. John’s commitment to providing financial support, coupled with the encouragement from notable figures, will create an atmosphere of inspiration and opportunity.
