R&B artist Tink has unveiled her latest album, “Winter’s Diary 5,” marking a significant milestone in her musical journey. The Chicago-born singer’s new release showcases her growth as an artist and her return to her roots.
A Decade of Musical Evolution and Self-Discovery
Ten years after her viral hit “Treat Me Like Somebody,” Tink reflects on her artistic development. “This album is so important because it’s a testament to everything I’ve been through over the years,” she tells ESSENCE.
The singer took a two-year hiatus to focus on personal growth. This break proved crucial, allowing her to rediscover her roots and return stronger in 2019.
Icy Aesthetics and Thematic Consistency
“Winter’s Diary 5” boasts a cohesive winter theme, evident in its icy album artwork. Tink’s creative team went to great lengths to capture this essence.
For the “Charged Up” single cover, they created a unique look. White cotton was stuck to mascara to give Tink frosted lashes, embodying the album’s wintry feel.
Vulnerability in Songwriting and Collaborations
The album features deeply personal tracks, including Tink’s favorite, “Lows & Highs.” She explains, “The song is about how every day is not going to be sunny.”
A notable collaboration with Summer Walker on “Songs About U” highlights unity among Black female artists. Tink emphasizes the importance of showcasing this solidarity in the industry.
R&B Influences and Beauty Inspirations
Tink cites Destiny’s Child, SWV, and Brandy as her major musical influences. Her beauty inspirations include 90s and early 2000s icons like Kelly Rowland and Gabrielle Union.
These influences have shaped both her musical style and her approach to beauty. Tink strives for a natural look in her daily life, focusing on skincare and hydration.
Self-Care and Mental Health Focus
The artist has embraced a holistic approach to her career and personal life. She incorporates yoga and gym sessions into her routine to maintain mental and physical health.
Tink believes in the power of self-care and its impact on her art. “When you look good, you feel good,” she says, highlighting the connection between wellness and creativity.
Looking Ahead: Future Projects and Continuing Growth
While celebrating this release, Tink hints at future projects. She plans to take time after her current tour to reflect and create new music for 2025.
The artist emphasizes the importance of surrounding oneself with supportive people.
She believes in uplifting other Black women in the industry, stating, “I’m going to give you your flowers. That really goes a long way.”
