Unveiling Her Metamorphosis

The three-time Grammy Award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion graces the cover of L’OFFICIEL’s Summer 2024 issue, igniting a fierce self-love revolution. Megan, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, bares her soul in a candid interview, unveiling her ongoing metamorphosis from a stallion to a serpent.

“Renewal, rebirth: that is the whole concept of this [album]. We started with the snake because, first of all, I love snakes, but I feel like snakes are so misunderstood, especially in western culture. Snakes represent rebirth, spirituality.”

Her latest single, “Boa,” released in May, emphasizes her journey of shedding toxicity and embracing authenticity. With lyrics like “Bitches is bitter, they thought it was sweet/All of a sudden they vegan, they don’t want beef,” Megan unapologetically reclaims her narrative.

Healing Through Trauma

Megan’s ascent to stardom has been accompanied by a series of traumas, from the loss of her mother and grandmother to the highly publicized shooting incident involving Tory Lanez. Amidst the turmoil, she found solace in solitude, therapy, and a focus on wellness.

“I don’t want to be my old self anymore because I don’t think I was processing my feelings properly. I was the type of person who worked through everything… But now I’m like, Well, wait a minute. Let me take my days to myself.”

Her Billboard No.1 diss track, “Hiss,” released earlier this year, marked a cathartic release, shedding light on her journey of self-acceptance and boundary-setting.

Breaking Cultural Taboos

As a Southern Black woman, Megan’s path to prioritizing mental health challenged cultural taboos surrounding vulnerability and seeking professional help.

“In the Black community, therapy to me meant you were crazy. Now that I’m in those shoes, I’m like, Man, I don’t want to carry that. I want to be strong. I don’t think therapy makes me weak.”

Through her openness, Megan aims to destigmatize mental health discussions within the Black community, empowering others to embrace their authentic selves.

A Multifaceted Artistry

Megan’s upcoming third album promises a multifaceted exploration of her emotions, blending genres and sounds that resonate with her authentic self.

“You’ll almost be like, I wouldn’t have thought she would’ve rapped over that, but this sounds great.”

With a nearly sold-out “Hot Girl Summer” tour on the horizon, Megan invites her “Hotties” to join her in celebrating self-love, empowerment, and the carefree Black girl spirit that has endeared her to legions of fans.
