Trailblazing Success: Fawn Weaver Joins Elite Ranks of Self-Made Billionaires
Forbes has unveiled its highly anticipated annual list of the wealthiest self-made women in America. Remarkably, a new name has emerged at the forefront – Fawn Weaver, the visionary founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest whiskey brand.
With a staggering net worth of $480 million, Weaver has propelled herself to the 68th spot, solidifying her position among the nation’s most affluent entrepreneurs.
“The right money will find you if you’re turning down the wrong money,” Weaver sagely remarked.
In less than a decade, Uncle Nearest has skyrocketed to become the world’s fastest-growing Black-owned whiskey brand. Forbes estimates the company’s valuation exceeds an astonishing $1.1 billion, with projected revenues surpassing $100 million this year alone.
Bold Beginnings: Risking It All for the Dream
Weaver’s extraordinary journey began in 2017 when she and her husband, Keith, took an audacious leap of faith.
They sold all their West Coast real estate holdings, including their dream home in Old Agoura, California, and even parted with their beloved Mini Coopers. Despite the immense risk, which included tanked credit scores, Weaver remained steadfast in her vision.
“When I went to the family I asked, ‘what is the one thing you think should happen to honor Nearest?’ They responded, ‘we think his name should be on a bottle,'” Weaver previously shared with ESSENCE.
Honoring a Legacy: The Story of Nearest Green
Weaver’s inspiration stemmed from learning the remarkable story of Nathan “Nearest” Green, an enslaved man who taught a young Jack Daniel the art of distilling.
Deeply moved, Weaver established a foundation dedicated to providing educational opportunities for Green’s descendants, a commitment she had harbored long before discovering his legacy.
“Rather than randomly focusing on kids from across the country, I said, I’ll just focus on one family. And bringing it back to the legacy of excellence that their ancestors started,” Weaver explained.
Queens of Capitalism: Women Entrepreneurs Soar
Weaver’s ascent to billionaire status is part of a broader trend among successful women entrepreneurs.
According to Forbes, the combined fortunes of the nation’s wealthiest self-made women soared by nearly one-fourth this year, reaching a staggering $154 billion.
There are now a record 31 self-made women billionaires, up from 24 a year ago, including notable newcomers like singer Katy Perry.
