Federal regulators have approved the first over-the-counter daily birth control pill called #Opill available in the United States.

‘Today’s approval marks the first time a nonprescription daily oral contraceptive will be an available option for millions of people in the United States,’ stated Dr. Patrizia Cavazzoni, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

Opill is set to be the most effective over-the-counter contraceptive in comparison to spermicides and condoms. This also means that many more women will have access to this drug, especially those who don’t have insurance.
