Meet #AsiaThomas ( @asia.bee_ ), an entrepreneur and single mother of three who is the first Black woman to own and operate a #Subway franchise in Duluth, Ga!
Thomas graduated from #ClarkAtlantaUniversity and earned her MBA from #FloridaInternationalUniversity. When the pandemic happened, Thomas was one of the many people who couldn’t go to work in person, which led her to start looking for other ways to earn money and provide for her family.
“I met a young, Black woman who worked for Subway headquarters. She encouraged me to apply, so I just happened to submit an inquiry. It was almost like it was destined to be,” Thomas told @WeBuyBlack.
Due to her heavy interest, Thomas hustled to reach her goal of becoming a franchise owner and found an existing Subway franchisee wanting to sell his restaurant. Thomas purchased it with confidence to turn around the revenue growth.
Unfortunately, Thomas was immediately met with a huge problem on her first day as the franchisee. “The day I took over, the staff took one look at me being a Black woman and being young, and they all quit,” she said. “I had to figure out how to open, close, and operate the store all by myself with no help.”
Despite all of the odds stacked against her, Thomas put her #BlackGirlMagic to work and ended up doubling the franchise’s profits within one month of her takeover! Now, she focuses on increasing profits, buying more franchises, and encouraging others to do so.
“I’m definitely going to buy more,” she said. “I would feel like a quitter if I didn’t buy more.”
