Simone Biles posted eight words to her Instagram Story on October 25, 2026, and they were not about gymnastics. “Just a foster kid trying to beat the statistics,” she wrote. Above it she had written, “We’ve come a long way.”
Biles is 29. She entered foster care at three and spent three years in it. At six, she and her younger sister Adria were adopted by their maternal grandparents, Ronald and Nellie Biles. Her older siblings, Ashley and Tevin, were adopted by their great-aunt.
She did not name the statistics. She also did not say she had beaten them. The verb she chose is present tense, trying, written by a woman who has won more world and Olympic gymnastics medals than anyone who has ever done it.
She said it on her own account, with nobody asking and no interview arranged. That is a different thing from a comeback story.
