Amber Riley posted a message on Threads on October 5, 2026, about who gets to be loved.

“Please don’t let this imaginary world online convince you that you’re not qualified to be loved,” she wrote.

The post came out of a decision she made at work. Riley filmed her first intimacy scene for an upcoming film and said she made a point of showing her body, because all bodies deserve to be seen being loved and desired.

She was clear about what the message was not. “This isn’t about what a man wants; it’s about someone hiding themselves because they don’t think they can be loved because they don’t fit this world’s beauty standards,” she wrote.

And then the line that does the work: “You can fight the patriarchy AND experience being loved and desired.”

That is the sentence worth keeping. The two things get set against each other constantly, as though a woman who asks for better has given up the right to be wanted, or a woman who wants to be wanted has stopped asking for better. Riley is saying both at once, out loud, with her name on it.

A lot of women are doing the hiding she is describing. Not because anyone told them to. Because a feed told them, every day, quietly, for years.
