Tina Knowles Uses Her Platform to Push Breast Cancer Awareness

Tina Knowles is using her voice to deliver a message that could save lives. During a panel at the 2026 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on April 18, the 72 year old opened up about the life changing lessons she learned after her breast cancer journey.

Speaking with honesty and urgency, Knowles encouraged women to make their health a priority. She revealed that before doctors found her cancer in 2024, she had missed two mammogram screenings. That experience, she said, changed how she sees self care and health.

“It was a miracle that they found it early,” Knowles shared. She then gave a direct message to women, saying, “So go and get your mammograms. It is so important to take care of yourself.”

Tina Knowles Reveals Why Early Mammograms Saved Her Life

Knowles explained that doctors diagnosed her with stage 1 breast cancer in July 2024. Thankfully, the cancer was discovered early enough for treatment. Soon after, she underwent surgery to remove a tumor from her left breast.

Her story now serves as a warning for women who delay routine checkups. She stressed that missing even one screening can have serious consequences. Her decision to speak openly reflects her desire to help other women avoid similar risks.

“And I think as women, sometimes we get so busy,” Knowles said. “But you must go get your test.”

The Power of Sisterhood and Support During Cancer Recovery

Beyond medical treatment, Knowles said emotional support became one of the most important parts of her healing journey. She told the audience that no woman should face a cancer diagnosis alone.

She emphasized the importance of having an inner circle. According to Knowles, that support can come from family or close friends. What matters most is having people who show up when life becomes difficult.

“When you hear the word cancer, it is the most frightening thing,” she said. “You need people around you that are gonna support you and get you through it.”

Knowles also acknowledged that not everyone has that support. That reality, she said, made her even more grateful for those who stood beside her.

Tina Knowles Says Breast Cancer Taught Her to Slow Down

The mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles also shared another major lesson. She said her cancer journey forced her to slow down and stop giving so much of herself to others.

For years, Knowles balanced family, business, and creative projects. However, the diagnosis made her realize that constantly putting others first comes at a cost. Today, she says she works harder to protect her peace.

“I just really take care of myself,” she explained. “I take time to enjoy my life and not be so stressed all the time.”

She added that women often pour into everyone else. Yet without caring for themselves, they may not be able to keep showing up for the people they love.

Tina Knowles Adds Cancer Journey to Her Memoir Matriarch

Knowles also decided to include her health journey in the paperback edition of her memoir, Matriarch. She admitted that sharing such a personal story was not easy because she naturally values privacy.

Still, she chose to speak out because she believes other women can learn from her experience. She said many readers wanted to know how she stayed strong mentally, emotionally, and physically during treatment.

“I decided to share it because I think there are a lot of lessons in it for other women,” Knowles said.

Now, through her book and public appearances, Tina Knowles continues to turn pain into purpose while inspiring women everywhere to put their health first.
