Claressa Shields has officially added another massive achievement to her legendary career. The Flint native was recently inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in Detroit. This honor celebrates her historic amateur run and her two Olympic gold medals. The ceremony took place on December 19, 2025, at the MotorCity Casino Hotel. It highlights how much she has done for sports in her home state.

What makes this induction special is that Shields is still in her prime. Most athletes wait until they retire to receive such an honor. However, Shields has dominated the boxing world so thoroughly that the Hall of Fame couldn’t wait. She joins a prestigious class of 2025 that includes icons like Chris Chelios and Rasheed Wallace. This recognition proves she is truly a once-in-a-generation talent.

Celebrating a Legacy of Olympic Success and Amateur Dominance

The Hall of Fame specifically recognized Shields for her incredible work as an amateur. She made history as the first American boxer to win back-to-back Olympic gold medals. These victories came in 2012 in London and 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. During her amateur years, she built a nearly perfect record of 64 wins and only one loss. This foundation set the stage for her to become the “GWOAT” (Greatest Woman Of All Time).

“To be named a Hall of Famer before I even fully stepped into my professional journey is incredible,” Shields shared. “It’s an honor I truly appreciate.”

Shields has always been vocal about her love for her hometown of Flint. Even as a global star, she chooses to fight in Michigan whenever possible. She believes the energy of Detroit and Flint keeps her motivated to succeed. By bringing major televised bouts to hometown arenas, she has helped put Michigan boxing back on the map. Her loyal fans continue to sell out arenas to show their support.

Chasing More Titles with a Major Detroit Rematch

While she is celebrating her past, Shields is already looking toward her next battle. She is currently training for a massive rematch against Franchón Crews-Dezurn. This fight is scheduled for February 22, 2026, at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. It is the first bout in her historic $8 million multi-fight deal. This contract is the largest ever signed in the history of women’s boxing.

The upcoming fight will have multiple world championship belts on the line. Shields and Crews-Dezurn first fought as professionals back in 2016. Since then, both women have become undisputed champions in their own right. Shields expects this second meeting to be even more intense than the first. She is determined to defend her titles in front of the people who have supported her from the start.
