A Star-Studded Finale at Pier 76

LaQuan Smith closed New York Fashion Week with a spectacular Spring/Summer 2026 collection that left the fashion world buzzing. On September 16, the Pier 76 Classic Car Club was transformed into a runway filled with luxury, power, and unapologetic glamour. Vintage automobiles framed the space, while sweeping views of the Hudson River gave the show a cinematic backdrop.

The atmosphere was electric. Celebrities including Wendy Williams, Ice Spice, Latto, Mariah the Scientist, Busta Rhymes, and Ice-T brought star power to the event. Phones flashed as the lights danced across chrome cars, amplifying the sense of excitement before the first model even stepped out.

Fashion Inspired by Power and Adventure

The opening look set the tone. A mock-neck sheer top paired with a mini skirt and cowboy hat nodded to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Smith envisioned his SS26 woman as both powerful and sensual. “She’s commanding a world that she already owns, and it feels dangerous and sexy,” Smith explained.

Across thirty looks, Smith fused strength and softness. A palette of tans, turquoise, orange, and earthy browns told a story of contrast. Materials like chiffon, faux suede, organza, and leather-effect textiles built a dialogue between delicacy and dominance. Hand embroidery from India shimmered through gowns, halters, and mini dresses, adding global craftsmanship to the collection’s bold voice.

Redefining Power Dressing for Women

Tailoring and provocation have long been LaQuan Smith’s trademarks, and this finale showed his mastery. Sheer mock turtlenecks and micro-minis pushed boundaries, while leather culottes cut with architectural precision redefined power dressing. A standout piece—lace-up leather pants styled by Patti Wilson—brought pure rock star energy. This was balanced with softer pieces like a chiffon dress in ocean turquoise, cinched with a crocodile belt.

His reinvention was equally evident in unexpected details. A boyfriend shirt reimagined in snakeskin-printed organza shimmered under the lights. A basketweave leather dress proved his dedication to craftsmanship, while sheer bodysuits tucked under pinstripe suits added a practical yet daring edge. Even these nods to daywear didn’t outshine the evening glamour that defines Smith’s legacy.

A Designer Unshaken by Change

Despite industry shifts, LaQuan Smith is focused on his vision. “I’m simply just not allowing myself to be affected by the changes of the world,” he told Vogue Runway. “I’m doubling down on making fantastic, beautiful pieces for women who want to stand out.”

That commitment showed in every detail of the show. From bold silhouettes to delicate handwork, Smith celebrated women who embrace their power without apology. By the finale, the cheers and flashing cameras confirmed that he had once again delivered a runway moment worthy of closing New York Fashion Week.
