Ellaé Lisqué Marks 10 Years in Business
Maxie James, known as Maxie J, has built Ellaé Lisqué into a fashion powerhouse that is celebrating 10 years in business. What makes this milestone special is not just the number but the journey. James faced the collapse of her retail store during the pandemic, which nearly ended her dream. Yet, she refused to walk away.
Her resilience came from one guiding belief: quitting was not an option. “There’s no plan B, my plan B is just another way to make my plan A work,” she said. This mindset carried her through setbacks and positioned Ellaé Lisqué as a brand that thrives by putting women first.
Refusing to Give Up Despite Hardship
When her store closed, James did not let the setback stop her. Instead, she downsized operations and shipped packages from her friend’s living room. Some family members advised her to “go get a job.” Her response was firm. “There’s no going to get a job. This is my job, and I don’t care if I have to do it on the corner.”
Her persistence led to a remarkable comeback. Ellaé Lisqué hit seven-figures in revenue after rebuilding. James admitted she was relentless. “I would not stop almost like a psychotic person,” she said. What may have looked like obsession became the foundation of a thriving business.
Celebrity Style Meets Everyday Women
The boutique attracted celebrities like Saweetie, Meagan Good, and Tamar Braxton. However, James never based her success on fame. “I’m grateful that famous people wear my clothes, but I’m even more grateful for my consumer, who wears my clothes and tags me on Instagram,” she explained.
For her, every woman matters. She pays attention to customers with five followers and those with 500,000 followers equally. This customer-first focus allowed her to retire her parents and sustain her business. Her belief is clear: fashion should celebrate all women, regardless of body type or status.
Redefining Fashion for All Body Types
James wanted Ellaé Lisqué to serve women who were often ignored by mainstream brands. She expanded her line to include plus-size clothing such as feather-trimmed suits, leopard lounge sets, and sequined mini dresses. Her goal is simple. “I always felt like a woman no matter your shape or size should feel beautiful and be able to put it on,” she said.
She saw gaps in the market and moved to fill them. “Every time I see a plus-size line, everything is very blue and floral and boring and old lady,” she noted. Instead, she designed clothes that allowed women of all sizes to look stylish and bold. For her, beauty is not tied to one body type.
Customer Loyalty as the True Powerhouse
James believes sustaining success depends on loyal customers, not one-time sales. “The real money is in the return customer. That’s how you sustain business people who come back over and over and over again,” she shared.
This long-term strategy means she continues to prioritize the women who supported her through challenges. She connects with them at pop-up shops, in Instagram comments, and through personalized attention. Even during vacations abroad, she remains plugged in. “If I’m on a yacht, I’m taking a conference call. If I’m at a party, I’m taking it,” she said. Her teams span three countries, and her dedication never switches off.
A Decade of Persistence and Style
Ellaé Lisqué’s tenth anniversary proves that resilience, vision, and customer care can turn obstacles into opportunities. Maxie J has transformed a personal dream into a global brand while showing that determination can carry a business through any storm.
As she continues to expand, her philosophy remains unchanged. Every woman deserves to feel powerful and stylish. By refusing to quit, Maxie J has built not only a fashion label but also a legacy.
