Wilson makes WNBA history with dominant performance
A’ja Wilson has set a record that no other WNBA player has achieved. She scored 32 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a single game. The performance came during the Las Vegas Aces’ 96-84 victory over the Connecticut Sun.
This was the first 30-point, 20-rebound game in WNBA history. Wilson also added five assists to her stat sheet. The game took place just two days after she celebrated her birthday on August 8. Fans at the Michelob ULTRA Arena witnessed history from one of the league’s most dominant players.
Aces secure fourth straight win at home
The win over the struggling Sun marked the Aces’ fourth victory in a row. Connecticut has a record of 5-25, while Las Vegas improved to 18-14. Jackie Young added 21 points and six assists to support Wilson’s effort. Jewell Loyd scored 12 points, and Dana Evans came off the bench with 10.
The Aces’ home crowd erupted as Wilson powered through defenders for rebounds and finished tough shots in the paint. The team’s recent surge is keeping their playoff hopes alive and giving them strong momentum.
Wilson climbing the WNBA record books
Wilson’s record night adds to an already decorated career. She now shares the record with Tina Charles for the most games with at least 30 points and 15 rebounds, with six each. She has also tied Breanna Stewart for third place in all-time 30-point games at 30. Only Angel McCoughtry, with 32, and Diana Taurasi, with 54, have more.
Her latest feat comes as her alma mater, the University of South Carolina, prepares to induct her into its Athletics Hall of Fame on October 23. She will be honored alongside five others and celebrated during the Gamecocks’ football game against Alabama on October 25.
What’s next for Wilson and the Aces
The Aces will look to continue their winning streak when they host the New York Liberty on August 13. The Liberty have a 20-11 record and will present a tougher challenge.
With Wilson in top form, Las Vegas is proving they can compete with any team in the league. Her leadership and historic performance are setting the tone for the rest of the season.
