A Magical Coachella Debut with Bold Fashion
Ravyn Lenae made her first Coachella performance one to remember. The Chicago-born R&B artist graced the Mojave Tent stage on Friday at 2:35 PM, dressed in a bold Renaissance-inspired outfit. Thousands of fans roared with excitement as Lenae stepped out in a structured leather two-piece, her long red hair glowing under the California sun.
Even with the desert heat and swirling dust, Lenae’s voice soared effortlessly. Her smooth vocals filled the air as she performed hits like “Sticky,” “Days,” and “Genius.” The outfit didn’t just look good—it helped mark a new era in her career. It matched the theme of her new album, Bird’s Eye, which explores heartbreak and emotional growth.
A Vision of Renaissance Royalty Meets Early 2000s Edge
Designed by London-based brand KNWLS, Lenae’s Coachella look brought Renaissance fashion into today’s world. The outfit featured a corset-style top with strong shoulder detailing and a draped earth-tone skirt. She looked like a modern knight—bold, elegant, and timeless. The look also gave a nod to early 2000s R&B style, especially with its Aaliyah-inspired edge.
The outfit came to life through her close work with stylist Sakinah Bashir. The two have built a strong connection over the past year, blending their tastes in fashion to create standout moments. “We are keeping that through line of what we’ve already established with the album and expanding on it,” Lenae shared.
Styling with Purpose and Confidence
Stylist Sakinah Bashir aimed to push fashion boundaries for this major moment. “We are in this new era. We kind of portray notes of Renaissance, newer Victorian era mixed with an early 2000s Aaliyah grunge,” she explained. That balance of historic elegance and modern soul gave Lenae a bold visual language on stage.
From wearing brands like Burberry and Acne to now stepping out in custom KNWLS, Lenae is proving her style evolution is no accident. She knows how to show her growth—not just in music but also through her image. “At Coachella, we can kind of push the boundary,” Bashir added.
Honoring Fans Old and New
Although Lenae lives in Los Angeles, this year marked her very first time attending Coachella—and she did it as a performer. She used the moment to connect deeply with her supporters. “I’m making sure that I’m catering to my OG fans but then also the many new people discovering me,” she said. Her goal was to create a performance that felt personal, yet powerful.
Her hit song “Love Me Not” recently made it onto the Billboard Hot 100. It has an old-school sound that reminds fans of music from the ’50s through the 2000s. “It’s cool to see people think that ‘Love Me Not’ is from the early 2000s, or the ’60s,” Lenae said. That’s the kind of timeless feel she’s always aimed for.
