A $50K Wedding Gifted by the Community

Kristina Hamilton never imagined her dream wedding would become a reality. But thanks to a kindhearted community and a national nonprofit, her special day came to life in the most beautiful way.

The 42-year-old woman, who battles a rare and terminal illness, received a $50,000 wedding from Wish Upon a Wedding. The nonprofit grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing serious health issues. Her April 6 wedding to Chris Swanson took place at Trinity Oaks of Matthew’s Hope in Cocoa, Florida.

Event planner Courtney Woolbright led the effort to bring Kristina’s wish to life. She brought in local vendors who donated every detail—from food to flowers—to create an unforgettable ceremony and reception.

Fighting a Rare Illness with Love and Grace

Kristina is living with Diffuse Systemic Scleroderma, a rare autoimmune disease. It causes her body to produce thick tissue, which has already changed her bone structure and affected her lungs, teeth, and overall health.

Despite the challenges, Kristina holds onto hope. She wasn’t sure she’d live long enough to get married. But when her wedding wish was granted, it gave her more than just a ceremony—it gave her joy, purpose, and strength.

“Chris has been my rock through it all,” Kristina told People. “His love and support inspire me every day.”

A Celebration Filled with Love and Generosity

Kristina walked down the aisle in a strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. Chris wore a blue Aurora Bridal suit. Her bouquet of blue and white roses was arranged by Crown of Flowers LLC. Everything matched perfectly.

After the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a joyful reception. Food was served by East Coast Shuckers and Renaissance Catering. DJ Chemics kept everyone dancing, while 1,000 Words set up a fun photo booth.

The cake, made by Cynful Snacks & Cakes, was a sweet highlight of the night. Guests also sipped on mocktails from De-Booze Mobile Bartending and Pop & Pour.

Vendors Joined Forces to Make It Happen

The reception hall was beautifully decorated. Chairs for Affairs provided the blue and white linens. Mimosas & Moonshine Rentals added the elegant table settings. The couple left the event in a stylish getaway car from Hot Rayz Limousines.

Kristina and Chris were overwhelmed with gratitude. “Their kindness, generosity, and love gave us a gift we will cherish forever,” they shared.

A New Chapter Full of Purpose and Gratitude

Now married, Kristina and Chris are blending their families. Together, they are raising seven children and taking life one day at a time. Kristina says they are focused on building a life “filled with purpose, strength, and family.”

She’s also sharing her journey online through her blog and Facebook page called Still Standing: Kristina’s Journey. She hopes to inspire others facing illness with her story of hope, resilience, and love.

Kristina plans to write a book about her life. She also wants to help raise awareness about her condition and contribute to finding a cure.

Hope, Awareness, and a Legacy of Love

Kristina’s wedding wasn’t just a ceremony—it was a reminder that love, kindness, and hope can shine through even the hardest times.

“Because of Wish Upon a Wedding, we’ve started this chapter with hearts full of love and hope,” the couple said.

Her journey shows that no matter what we’re facing, we can still stand strong—with love by our side.
