At the Leading Women Defined Summit in California, former Vice President Kamala Harris delivered an impassioned message to Black women across the country, urging them to stand strong in the face of political and social challenges. Harris, who has remained relatively out of the public eye following her loss in the November 2024 election, used the summit as a platform to advocate for unity, resilience, and the power of sisterhood during uncertain times.

Kamala Harris’s Call for Unity and Sisterhood

The summit, which took place in Dana Point, California, gathered influential Black women from various fields to discuss leadership, policy, and empowerment. Harris spoke directly to the audience, reminding them of the strength they possess when united.

“This is a moment in time where we all need to be in rooms like this to remind ourselves that we have a sisterhood that is strong,” Harris said, her voice steady with conviction. She continued, emphasizing the importance of identity, saying, “No one can take our identity or existence from us — because we won’t let them.” These powerful words resonated with the audience, who applauded her message of empowerment and solidarity.

Courage in the Face of Uncertainty

Harris did not shy away from acknowledging the tough political climate under President Donald Trump’s second term. She spoke about the rollback of key policies and the growing climate of fear, but also emphasized the role that courage plays in shaping the future. “Fear is contagious… but courage is contagious too,” Harris declared, urging her audience to act despite the challenges.

Despite the difficult circumstances, including the dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, Harris reminded those in attendance that Black women have always been at the forefront of change. She encouraged them to rise and continue their efforts, noting that “there’s great power in this room,” and urging them to remain steadfast and united.

Kamala Harris Reflects on the 2024 Election

Harris also reflected on the 2024 presidential race and the political realities many Americans are now facing. Referring to her own campaign and the unexpected events surrounding President Biden’s exit, Harris remarked, “There were many things we knew were gonna happen.” She added, “I’m not here to say I told you so,” drawing applause from the crowd.

This remark highlighted the foresight and preparedness Harris displayed during her campaign, as well as the stark changes that have come to the country under the new administration. Still, she emphasized that it’s a “very different time,” signaling the need for renewed focus and activism in the face of adversity.

Black Women Must Lead the Charge for Change

One of the most powerful parts of Harris’s speech came when she urged the women in the room to continue their leadership roles, despite the challenges they may face. “There are people counting on us—to be kind, to be fierce, and to be together,” Harris said, urging her audience to maintain their strength and unity in the pursuit of justice and equality.

She stressed that Black women have always been the ones to lead the charge for change in this country, and it is now more critical than ever that they remain at the forefront. Whether through politics, activism, or community building, Harris called on Black women to keep pushing for a better future.

Conclusion: The Power of Sisterhood and Collective Courage

As Harris’s speech drew to a close, it was clear that the message she wanted to impart was one of resilience and hope. In times of uncertainty, it is the collective power of sisterhood and courage that will carry communities forward. Kamala Harris reminded Black women across the country of their immense power, urging them to stand strong and remain united in the fight for a better tomorrow.
