Hannah Olive Takes the Crown at Miss Black University Pageant
Hannah Olive has been named the winner of the 2025 Miss Black University Pageant at the University of Mississippi. She captivated the audience and judges with her confidence, earning both the crown and the Audience Choice award.
The annual event, hosted by the university’s National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), took place on March 21 with the theme “Eclipsed in Elegance.” Six contestants showcased their skills and poise in different rounds, celebrating Black excellence on campus.
A Night of Talent, Grace, and Representation
The competition featured multiple rounds, including introductions, a health and fitness segment, and a talent showcase. Contestants also participated in a question-and-answer session, where they were asked to define and embody brilliance.
Olive, a junior majoring in allied health sciences, stood out for her stage presence and connection with the audience. Her poise and confidence helped her secure the Audience Choice award before ultimately claiming the title.
“This moment just means so much,” Olive shared with The Daily Mississippian. “I’m very excited and thankful for my support system and everybody who helped me. I’m ready to represent, serve, and just do what God calls me to.”
The Pageant’s Role in Empowering Black Students
The Miss Black University Pageant serves as a platform to celebrate and uplift Black students at Ole Miss. As a university with a complex racial history, including the integration of its first Black student, James Meredith, events like this pageant help foster unity and cultural representation.
“This pageant was an opportunity for someone to represent the Black community here at the university since we are the minority,” said Lindsey Cole, the event’s coordinator and NPHC vice president of affairs. “It was really great getting to learn and watch them work together and become great friends throughout this whole process.”
Continuing a Tradition of Excellence and Sisterhood
The NPHC leaders expressed their pride in organizing an event that highlights the achievements of Black women on campus.
“It was a product of love and dedication,” said NPHC leader AC Buckley. “It’s been really joyous to see all of our contestants perform and compete and represent all of the amazing Black women that we have on campus.”
With its third successful year, the Miss Black University Pageant is expected to continue its legacy of celebrating Black excellence, sisterhood, and empowerment at Ole Miss.
