Cori Broadus, daughter of iconic rapper Snoop Dogg, has bravely shared her ongoing struggle with depression and lupus in a new E! docuseries titled Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori & Wayne’s Story. The 25-year-old artist, who has faced immense personal challenges from a young age, revealed how these battles have shaped her journey toward healing. Through her story, she aims to inspire others facing similar challenges, showing that despite the darkness, hope and healing are possible.
Struggling with Lupus and Depression from a Young Age
Diagnosed with lupus at the tender age of 6, Cori’s life has been marked by frequent doctor visits and constant health challenges. Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, affects her immune system, causing pain and fatigue. As Cori grew older, she battled depression alongside the physical symptoms of her illness.
“I’ve always been depressed, I’ve always been ‘why me?’” Cori shared in a candid moment during the docuseries. For years, the weight of her condition wore heavily on her mental health. The isolation and struggles intensified as she navigated life during the pandemic. “Once COVID hit, I was just in a dark, deep space,” she added.
Confronting Suicidal Thoughts and Finding Support
Cori’s mental health challenges reached a breaking point a few years ago, leading her to contemplate suicide. In 2021, she was admitted to a mental health facility after a suicide attempt. In her darkest hours, Cori found strength through her fiancé, Wayne Duece, who has been a constant source of support.
“I was in a mental facility because I tried to commit suicide in 2021,” Cori revealed. Despite these difficult moments, her fiancé’s unwavering love and support helped her begin her path to recovery. “I feel like, when we’re in a certain space or place, it feels like the end of the world,” Cori shared. “But with time, it does get better.”
Coping Through Work: Choc Factory and Music
In her journey toward healing, Cori found solace in creative outlets. She dove into her work, channeling her energy into her beauty brand, Choc Factory, and her music. The brand, which started with a passion for lip gloss, became an escape and a way for Cori to stay grounded.
“I was like, ‘Okay girl, you gotta get out of this s—,’” Cori said, explaining how she got inspired to launch Choc Factory. The brand became a reminder of her resilience. Alongside her entrepreneurial efforts, Cori released an EP titled Journals to Johnny, which adds another layer to her healing process through music.
Progress and Healing: Managing Lupus and Mental Health
As Cori continues to find healing, she has been making strides in managing her lupus and mental health. For the first time in months, she has been off her medications and has seen significant improvements in her health. During the docuseries, she shared the positive results from her recent doctor’s visit. “My labs looked better than ever,” Cori said, reflecting on her progress. While she still feels tired at times, she expressed relief that her body aches less.
Cori’s openness about her battles with depression and lupus offers a powerful message to others facing similar struggles. Through her journey, she proves that healing takes time and perseverance, but it is always possible with the right support and mindset.
