Emmy Nomination for “Winning Time”

Richardson-Whitfield’s nomination is s on the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Despite the show’s cancellation before completing its run, her directorial skills have earned her significant recognition. She was nominated in a highly competitive category, marking a milestone for diversity in the industry.

The nomination is a testament to her talent and dedication. Richardson-Whitfield has long been admired for her roles in 1990s hits like Mo’ Money and A Low Down Dirty Shame. She also gained acclaim with her voice work on the animated series Gargoyles.

A Surprising Achievement

Reflecting on her nomination, Richardson-Whitfield admitted she was caught off guard. “I was completely blindsided! I was more focused on The Gilded Age because HBO had been promoting that show,” she told ESSENCE. She added that she did not expect Winning Time to receive multiple nominations, let alone one for directing.

The unexpected cancellation of Winning Time made the nomination even more surprising. “I was really proud of that episode,” she noted. Despite the show’s end, her work on it has been recognized with this prestigious nod.

Excitement and Future Projects

Richardson-Whitfield is excited about her Emmy debut. “I’ve never been to the Emmys before! The fact that I’m nominated for two Emmys is incredible,” she said. She views this nomination as a significant step in her career and is eager to experience the event.

Looking ahead, Richardson-Whitfield is preparing for her next project. She will direct Task, an upcoming HBO crime drama starring Mark Ruffalo. This new venture continues to build on her growing reputation as a talented director.
