SoHarlem’s upcoming Annual Benefit, titled “I Am So Harlem,” promises an unforgettable celebration of fashion and diversity. This year’s event will honor iconic fashion model and advocate Bethann Hardison with a special debut fashion show.
Tribute to Bethann Hardison
Bethann Hardison has been a trailblazer in the fashion industry, known for her advocacy for diversity and her influential career. Hardison will be celebrated at SoHarlem’s first-ever fashion show, highlighting her significant impact on the industry. Her dedication to inclusivity has helped reshape beauty standards and promote equal opportunities for models of color.
The fashion show will feature designs from the SoHarlem Design Collective, showcasing the creativity of Harlem’s talented entrepreneurs. Attendees can also enjoy live music by South African cellist Thapelo Masita, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the evening.
An Array of Inspiring Events
The “I Am So Harlem” benefit will take place on September 12, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Manhattanville Factory District, located at 439 West 127th Street. The event will include a spread of memorable cuisine, music, and art. Following the benefit, a three-day pop-up series from September 13 to 15 will feature the SoHarlem Design Collective’s latest fashion lines.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to view a Harlem Derby installation by Robert Louis Owens and artwork from Milagros Batista. Additionally, the mini-documentary “Don’t Hate the Players, Change the Game” will be screened, offering further insights into the impact of diversity in fashion.
Celebrating Harlem’s Legacy
SoHarlem Founder and CEO Janet Rodriguez emphasized the significance of this year’s events, stating, “SoHarlem’s entrepreneurs have been creating extraordinary work. The three-day pop-up is a wonderful reflection of Harlem’s legendary contribution to fashion.”
