Making History in Gaming

A’ja Wilson, star player for the Las Vegas Aces, is set to shatter records as the first WNBA athlete featured on the cover of NBA 2K, a monumental achievement for women’s basketball. Scheduled for release on September 6th, NBA 2K25 will showcase Wilson on its global edition cover, marking a historic milestone in the gaming world.

“I am thrilled to be on the NBA 2K25 cover, representing the WNBA and inspiring young athletes everywhere,” expressed Wilson, highlighting the significance of her inclusion in the popular video game series. Her presence signifies a significant step forward in recognizing and celebrating women’s contributions to sports.

Trailblazing Career

Drafted as the first overall pick by the Las Vegas Aces in 2018, A’ja Wilson has quickly risen to prominence, leading her team to back-to-back WNBA championships in 2022 and 2023. Known for her scoring prowess, averaging 27 points per game, and defensive prowess with 2.7 blocks, Wilson continues to redefine standards in women’s basketball.

Growing Popularity of Women’s Basketball

The WNBA’s 28th season kickoff in May 2024 saw a surge in popularity, with record attendance and viewership across major networks. Arena capacities reached 94%, reflecting a 17% increase from the previous year, while national TV broadcasts on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and CBS drew an average of 1.32 million viewers per game.

Colie Edison, Senior Vice President and Chief Growth Officer, remarked, “The growing engagement and support for women’s sports, exemplified by the WNBA’s rising momentum, underscore its value and appeal across diverse audiences.”

Collaboration with NBA Icons

Joining Wilson on NBA 2K25’s All-Star edition cover is NBA standout Jayson Tatum, celebrating his recent NBA Finals victory with the Boston Celtics. This joint feature underscores the game’s commitment to bridging the gap between men’s and women’s basketball, offering fans a comprehensive view of top athletes from both leagues.

Exclusive Editions and Global Impact

In addition to the global edition, A’ja Wilson will grace the cover of a GameStop-exclusive WNBA edition of NBA 2K25, available exclusively in the U.S. and Canada. This special edition aims to further elevate the visibility of WNBA stars and their contributions to sports culture.
