Trailblazing Leadership for a Historic Organization
The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta (GSGATL) has made history by appointing Jai Ferrell as its new CEO, the first person of color to lead the 103-year-old organization. A fifth-generation Atlantan and former Girl Scout herself, Ferrell is poised to bring her extensive experience and bold vision to the council.
“I am incredibly honored to be selected as the next CEO for Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta,” Ferrell said. “This is the right time and place for me to bring my skills and talents to serve others.”
Ferrell’s appointment marks the culmination of a nationwide search by the council’s board of directors, underscoring her exceptional qualifications and commitment to the Girl Scouts’ mission.
A Seasoned Leader with Diverse Expertise
Ferrell’s professional background spans leadership roles across various industries, including entertainment television, consumer products, and sports for major brands like WarnerMedia, CNN, Major League Baseball, and BET Networks. Most recently, she served as the Chief Commercial/Revenue Officer for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest airport.
“Jai’s extensive experience and relevant connections to the metro Atlanta community and beyond were important factors in our decision,” said Susan L. Lazaro, search committee leader.
Recognized for her achievements, Ferrell has been named one of Atlanta Magazine‘s “500 Top Leaders” multiple times and a “Women Leading Travel & Hospitality Honoree” in 2023.
Empowering Girls for the Future
As the first Black woman to lead GSGATL, Ferrell understands the importance of representation and empowerment for young girls. Her vision extends beyond the organization’s iconic cookie sales, aiming to equip diverse young women with the skills and tools to navigate an ever-evolving world.
“The girls that we’re supporting now are going to have careers that we don’t even know what they aren’t yet,” Ferrell said. “How do we provide them with the skills and the tools in their toolbox to be able to meet that in the future?”
With a focus on mental health programming, entrepreneurship, science education, camping, and community service, Ferrell is determined to ensure the Girl Scouts remain relevant and impactful for generations to come.
A Commitment to Community Engagement
Ferrell’s deep roots in Atlanta and her dedication to community engagement further enhance her ability to lead GSGATL effectively. She has served on the board of the Andrew & Walter Young YMCA and actively secured partnerships with institutions across Atlanta, Clayton, DeKalb, and Fulton County Schools.
Ferrell holds a bachelor’s from Spelman College, a master’s from Georgia State University, and in 2023, completed the Harvard Business School Executive Education program to earn a Certificate of Management Excellence.
