Pioneering Physician Solves Nosebleed Woes with NasaClip
Dr. Elizabeth Clayborne, an emergency medicine physician from Maryland, has created a groundbreaking solution for nosebleed relief – the NasaClip. This ingenious medical device promises to be as essential as the Band-Aid for quick care on the go.
“I want to knock it out of the park with NasaClip, so that I can inspire other women and people of color to pursue their entrepreneurial journey,” Clayborne says.
Trailblazers Paving the Way for Innovation
Clayborne’s journey to success was fueled by the unwavering support of fellow Black women investors who believed in her vision. Defying the dismal statistics that only 0.34% of venture capital goes to Black women entrepreneurs, she turned to her community for angel investments.
“I had heavy support from other physicians who knew me, understood my device and wanted to support me,” Clayborne explains.
Among her early backers were Dr. Charlotte Jones-Burton of WOCIP (Women of Color in Pharma) and Jill Johnson of IFEL (Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership).
Overcoming Funding Hurdles, Outperforming Expectations
Despite the challenges Black women face in securing traditional venture capital funding, Clayborne remained undeterred. Her determination was fueled by the knowledge that women-led companies statistically outperform their male counterparts.
“Even if [Black women] don’t get as much capital, statistically, we actually outperform all of our white male counterparts. We’re faster to revenue and profitability,” she notes.
Her perseverance paid off, with NasaClip’s pre-money valuation now exceeding ten million dollars.
Inspiring Future Generations of Innovators
Clayborne’s success as a CEO and physician is not only empowering her but also shaping her daughters’ perceptions of what women can achieve. Her three and five-year-old girls now see it as normal for a woman to be a successful entrepreneur and doctor.
“They think it’s normal for me, as a woman, to be a CEO and a doctor and to be on TV all the time,” Clayborne beams.
Prioritizing Mental Wellness and Work-Life Balance
While pursuing her entrepreneurial dreams, Clayborne recognizes the importance of self-care. She takes Sabbath days and blocks Mondays as personal days to reset and recharge, preventing burnout and fostering a refreshed attitude.
“I think that that has been essential to me giving myself the mental and physical space to pause and reset,” she says.
A Legacy of Innovation and Representation
Clayborne’s journey with NasaClip is more than just a business endeavor; it’s a testament to the innovative spirit and resilience of Black women. Her success has the potential to inspire others and create a lasting legacy for future generations.
“I want to be successful in this role because representation matters,” Clayborne declares.
With the backing of trailblazing Black women investors and an unwavering commitment to improving lives, Dr. Elizabeth Clayborne is poised to revolutionize nosebleed relief and pave the way for more women and people of color to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
