    Emotional Tribute to Rachel Robinson

Major League Baseball celebrated Jackie Robinson Day on April 15 with a special tribute to his wife, Rachel Robinson.

The heartwarming video titled “Dear Rachel” featured influential people from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization expressing gratitude for her continued impact.

“My Hero is You, Rachel Robinson”

Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, poignantly stated, “I’m often asked the question who my hero is. I undoubtedly respond my hero is you, Rachel Robinson.”

The video aimed to honor Rachel’s remarkable legacy in keeping her husband’s mission alive.

The New York Mets also paid tribute to the 101-year-old Rachel Robinson before their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza and legend Mookie Wilson presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers at Citi Field.

“Just to be in her presence, knowing that Jackie’s presence is right there with her, is enough for me,” said former Mets player Butch Huskey.

Ceremonial First Pitch by Rachel’s Grandson

Adding to the emotional occasion, Rachel’s grandson, Busro Robinson, threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Butch Huskey, the last Mets player to wear Jackie’s iconic No. 42 before it was retired in 1997.

Robinson’s son David reflected on his mother’s resilience, stating, “Her good moments are as sharp as a tack.

And, she’s the legacy of perseverance.” He added, “All the grandchildren know her expression is ‘onward and upward.'”

Players Donate Salaries to Increase Diversity

In a testament to Jackie Robinson’s lasting influence, several players across the league donated their April 15 gameday salaries to the Players Alliance, an organization dedicated to increasing Black participation in organized baseball at all levels.
