At just 36 years old, Pettway’s life was tragically cut short after a battle with cervical cancer, which was initially misdiagnosed as fibroids.
“It’s my birthday today, and the only thing I could ever wish for is for God to bring you back on this earth,” Pettway’s sister wrote in a heartbreaking Instagram post. “I lost my beautiful big sister 2 days ago, and my heart has never felt pain like this.”
A Courageous Journey: Documenting Her Health Struggles
Pettway, a beloved wife and mother of two, began documenting her health journey in 2022 after taking a social media break. A year later, she revealed to her legion of followers that she had been diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer, a devastating blow after being initially misdiagnosed with fibroids.
“It turns out, it was not a fibroid, but cancer. I was misdiagnosed all this time,” Pettway wrote on Instagram. “I remember hearing that and immediately saying to myself, ‘I refuse to make an agreement with that diagnosis.’ And so I didn’t. Being told I have cancer didn’t [devastate] me. It was the reaction of those close to me.”
Long before the term “influencer” became a household name, Pettway had established herself as a trusted voice in the beauty and hair space. Her YouTube channel, boasting over 200,000 followers, showcased her versatility, creativity, and expertise in hair styling, makeup artistry, and fashion.
