Beyoncé just announced the title of the second act of her Renaissance era: Cowboy Carter, dropping March 29th.
In a lengthy instagram post, the artist first thanks her supporters for helping her make history as the first Black woman to earn a number one single on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.
Bey went on the explain why she decided to spend five years working on this project, and it all began during her Daddy Lessons performance with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 Country Music Awards.
“This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed…and it was very clear that I wasn’t,” Bey wrote.
“But, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive. It feels good to see how music can unite so many people around the world, while also amplifying the voices of some of the people who have dedicated so much of their lives educating on our musical history.”
This is very brave of Beyoncé and we are so proud of her for using her platform to reclaim this genre for so many black artists who are no longer with us. #BWLM💕
