Actress Claims Hollywood’s Highest Honor for “The Holdovers” Performance
Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s powerful performance in the 2023 comedy/drama “The Holdovers” earned her the ultimate recognition – an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
The 96th annual Oscars ceremony kicked off with Randolph tearfully accepting the coveted statuette, presented by previous category winner Lupita Nyong’o.
“I Just Need to Be Myself”
“For so long, I had always wanted to be different. And now, I realize I just need to be myself,” Randolph said in her acceptance speech, her voice trembling with emotion. “I thank you for seeing me.”
The actress, who originally focused on classical and opera singing at Temple University, expressed gratitude for her mother’s encouragement to explore acting.
That decision ultimately led her to Yale Drama School, a groundbreaking stint on Broadway, and now, an Oscar win.

“God is so good,” Randolph began. “I didn’t think I was supposed to be doing this as a career.”
She went on to thank her supporters, saying, “A thank you to all the people who have stepped in my path and been there for me; who have ushered me and guided me.”
