Judge Adrienne C. Nelson becomes the first Black woman to serve on the U.S. District Court in Oregon

The U.S. Senate confirmed Adrienne C. Nelson to serve as a federal judge, the first Black woman to serve on the U.S. District Court in Oregon.

Nelson will fill a seat vacated by Michael W. Mosman, who became a senior judge in December 2021.

Three Republicans joined with Democrats to support Nelson. They were U.S. Senators Susan Collins, R-Maine; Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. Nelson was approved by the Senate in a 52-46 vote.
