According to @NPR#QueenLatifah is now the first female hip-hop artist to have her music inducted into one of the nation’s most noble collecting institutions, the Library of Congress, which includes nearly four million sound recordings.

The work selected for the honor is her debut album, All Hail the Queen, which she released as a teen in 1989.

“Her album showed rap could cross genres including reggae, hip-hop, house and jazz — while also opening opportunities for other female rappers,” the LOC statement said.

ICYDK, the Library of Congress is the national library of the United States of America and is the largest library in the world by collection size, with over 170 million items, including books, manuscripts, photographs, maps, and other media materials.
