#ZandraFlemister, the first Black woman to serve as a special agent in the U.S. Secret Service, passed at age 71 last week.

Flemister spent over three decades as a foreign service officer, rising to the upper ranks of senior foreign service before Alzheimer’s disease forced her to retire in 2011.

Flemister did so while juggling family responsibilities, including raising her son, who was diagnosed with autism as a child.

She is recognized as a pioneer at the agency, which she left after four years because of racial discrimination.

Flemister, unfortunately, succumbed to Alzheimer’s complications and is remembered for her service to this country. #BWLM💕
