Mielle Organics Joins P&G Beauty: What does this Mean for Your Favorite Hair Products?
Last week, it was announced that the @MielleOrganics haircare brand will join P&G Beauty, the company behind Always, Crest, Pantene, and other popular brands. P&G will provide additional resources to expand the brand.
According to a release about the news, Mielle Organics will operate as an independent subsidiary. Monique, and her husband, Melvin Rodriguez, will stand as CEO and COO of the company.
Over the last few weeks, Mielle has faced a generous amount of criticism on social media.
Influencers Alix Earle and Danielle Athena included the popular Mielle product, Rosemary Mint Oil, in their viral TikTok videos.
Loyal consumers of the brand weren’t happy about the video’s popularity due to fear that the brand’s increased visibility to white influencer audiences could lead to a product shortage for the Black customer base it was created to serve.
Some commenters also worried the brand would reformulate the products to suit customers’ needs with straighter hair textures, especially if a larger company acquired the brand.
In response, Mielle posted a statement to its Instagram page, assuring fans there were no plans to change the any of the brand’s formulas. “We’ve been together on this ride for awhile, so you know that my journey with Mielle started from a place of creating the product I wasn’t finding in the marketplace,” Monique Rodriguez said in the statement. “We remain forever committed to developing quality, efficacious products that address the need states for our customers’ hair types! Sincerely, The Queen of Hair 💗💗”
To show their commitment to their original consumers, Mielle and P&G have each committed $10 million to the Mielle Cares non-profit, which provides information and resources to advance initiatives important to Black and Brown communities. #BWLM💕
