Legendary tennis player #SerenaWilliams has announced that she is retiring from the sport as she graces the cover of the September issue of Vogue. She wrote a farewell message via the publication and says that her last performance will be at the U.S. Open.
“It’s the hardest thing that I could ever imagine,” she says. “I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next.”
Serena mentions in her essay that her daughter Olympia wants a sister and that she’s been entertaining the thought of expanding her family with husband Alexis Ohanian. She also wants to focus on Serena Ventures, a firm where she invests in companies such as Tonal, Impossible Foods, Noom, and Esusu, to name a few.
“I’m not looking for some ceremonial, final on-court moment,” Serena later adds. “I’m terrible at goodbyes, the world’s worst. But please know that I am more grateful for you than I can ever express in words. You have carried me to so many wins and so many trophies. I’m going to miss that version of me, that girl who played tennis. And I’m going to miss you.”
