Oakland native reporter #MalikaAndrews became the first woman to host the NBA Draft on the same day as the 50th anniversary of Title IX which was legislation that was passed in order to open more doors for women in the NBA and sports industry.
You may know Andrews from seeing her host ESPN’s “NBA Today” and hosting the NBA Draft Lottery in May, preparing her for this big moment as she made history in the Barcley Center this past week.
Andrews has had many accomplishments and has taken part in various events that prepared her for this moment to do what she’s meant to do in the world of journalism. She has been diligently working and leading by example for young girls that may have an interest in sports.
In fact, Andrews won this year’s Sports Emmy for Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent, beating out former NFL stars-turned-broadcasters Julian Edelman, Eli Manning, and Greg Olsen, as well as being one of the youngest sideline reporters to work the NBA Conference Finals in the 2020 Orlando bubble.
She’s an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists and was presented with the organization’s Michael J. Feeney Emerging Journalist of the Year Award last year. As a woman, ESPN lead analyst Malika Andrews is setting standards for the young women that look up to her and doing what needs to be done whilst breaking down barriers in the NBA.
Congratulations! #BWLM💕
