The #RhimesPerformingArtsCenter held its grand opening this past Saturday, April 9, 2022. The center, which is named after executive producer and author #ShondaRhimes, will be the new home for the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, according to @People.
“At DADA, the program is a haven of discipline and acceptance where — no matter their size, ability or economic background — young girls and boys grow into hard working, conscientious, determined and confident young women and men,” said Shonda Rhimes.
“…DADA will take a giant step forward towards realizing the dreams of thousands of young aspiring artists, parents, up and coming as well as seasoned professionals along with our local and global community,” stated Allen.
The 24,000 square foot facility will not only house #DADA, but the #WallisPerformanceSpace honoring Wallis Annenberg, D.A. RPAC boasts an aerial studio named for #WillSmith and #JadaPinkett, #KobeBryant will be honored with a “Wall of Light” which will spotlight major sponsors, a #BerryGordy Control Room and Recording Studio as well the #ChandraWilsonEductionCenter which is the central space for the #DebbieAllenMiddleSchool (DAMS).
#HerbieHancock (YES, THE HERBIE HANCOCK!) and #JenniferHudson were amongst a star-studded list of performers. Think the #RocNation Brunch meets #SoulfulSundays with a few helpings of the visual and performing arts.
#SamuelLJackson and his wife LaTanya were in attendance along with Debbie Allen’s sister, Phylicia Rashad, all attending in honor of the actress. House Representative #MaxineWaters gave a congratulatory speech via video for @TheRealDebbieAllen’s Time Capsule, amongst handfuls of other notably famous faces and admirers.
#ShondaRhimes continues to be a trailblazer; not just with production and creating on screen, but in #RealLife. With the planning and execution of bringing this project to life, there will be generations upon generations, blessed with a space to create. #BWLM💕
