When selecting writers for any project, having a unique perspective is always a great thing. The value of perspective seems to be of more focus, at least for Black producers and creatives alike.
Great thing for #MaliaObama is she’s been granted an incredibly unique perspective being a former first daughter – with parents being former President #BarackObama and First Lady, #MichelleObama. There are so many angles that make her experience as “First Daughter” that differs from the others. First and foremost, she is a young, Black woman, with an undeniably bright future ahead and natural talent.
In the Fall of 2017, Malia began her matriculation through Harvard, pursuing her passion in television and film making, later graduating in 2021. She was named a #ThomasTempleHoopesPrize winner for excellent undergraduate work and excellence in the art of teaching.
Following that honor, Malia became a production assistant on the set of #Extant in 2014, aiding the writers of the series ‘Girls’ in 2015 and served a stint with The Weinstein Company in 2017.
Now, Malia has landed a position in the writers’ room of #ChildishGambino aka Golden Globe Award-winning actor #DonaldGlover’s new Amazon series about a “Beyonce-esque pop star”, titled #Hive. Glover has been praised for his creation #Atlanta which just premiered its third season March 24, 2022 after numerous delays and mounted anticipation. (Glover and his team did not disappoint and clearly didn’t come to play!)
Brother of Donald, Stephen is also collaborating with the Obama-assisted Amazon series and also had this to say about the young talent: “Donald always says perspective is important, and people with different perspectives are important for a writers’ room…we wanted to hear her stories and have her work with us. Listening to her stories and having her involved really gave us a lot of good ideas.”
We are definitely looking forward to seeing what unfolds for Miss. Obama as well as the other #Hive writing team.
